Our proven VR- tools for workgroups or presentations are based on standard projectors with only slight modifications. Therefore we are able to offer our systems at low prices and are free to always focus on the newest and most proven techniques the market delivers state of the art know-how from 3Dims can provide the entry into the virtual world, at very reasonable cost.

As a System Integrator, 3Dims naturally also delivers complete VR-systems. For example, our entry system "VRschwinglich" is a graphics workstation with 3D input, a stereo projection system and even a preinstalled VR-editor including demos. The complete offering includes delivery and training that you may start right away. We offer passive stereo projection systems in all price ranges. In fact, not all standard projectors are appropriate for stereo projections. We only offer products which match our specifications and selection criteria like picture quality, thermal and life-time stability, mechanical attributes, and polarization capabilities.

Our teamwork with the producers guaranty the best selection results for the "twin pair". The carrier system, especially developed to smooth out small mechanical tolerances, is able to make the two projectors work like "one look and feel" stereo projection.

What's more effective, active oder passive Stereo?

There's no straight answer to that question. Sometimes passive would be the better choice, especially because it's brighter and the less expensive cardboard glasses can be used, for instance on fairs ets...
Sometimes active would be worthwhile because there's no need for a silverscreen. Projection can be visualized on a white wall.

To make decisions easier, 3Dims GmbH released the first projector which is capable of both technologies. The system is available for 4.900€ including 10 shutter glasses plus a 4 watt longrange emitter and 10 passive polfilter glasses.

With a resolution of 1024x768px (xga) and 6000 lumen, the projector provides high quality pictures even on a large scale and inconvenient light conditions.

Overview:


Based on our long term experience and series of test runs, we have been able to identify the right filters, glasses, projection media, cables, and many other useful features. Only with this experience is it possible to develop complete high quality 3D-projection systems. VR-systems are comparable with high end audio solutions: perfect music (software in our case) can only be created if it is integrated with an excellent amplifier (computer in our case) and with the correctly chosen loud speakers (display system in our case). You should rely on our high quality and know-how and not accept any compromises regarding the value-add provided by interfacing with human beings!

3Dims is the inventor and market leader of "portable reality". The often-sold systems introduced here are portable and can be quickly constructed at customer locations, in the office or in conference rooms. They are also used as small fixed installations. They are adjusted in minutes and ready for use. According to the purpose of the installation, there are a variety of solutions with differing light strength and channel separation procedures. A short explanation follows:

To be able to see all 3 dimensions, two pictures are always necessarily: one for the left eye and one for the right eye. The human brain joins both pictures, in reality as well as VR, to a three-dimensional picture with height, width and depth. To guarantee that the left picture is exclusively presented to the left eye and that the right picture is exclusively presented to the right eye different technologies have emerged. The different methods are presented below:

Aktive Stereo

Pro: only one projector.Independent of head inclination.projection on white surface.

Con: only one projector.Independent of head inclination.projection on white surface.

The pictures (right and left) are received on the projector at alternating frequencies of approximately 100Hz. Naturally this must be quick enough to appear as a single picture. Out of the computer comes a sync signal that the projector and an infrared emitter receive to say which picture shall be displayed. The IR emitter sends this information to the active shutter glasses that continuously alternate between one lens open and the other shut. The human eye is too sluggish to follow the alternations and therefore combines the images into one 3D image.



Linear Polarized

Pro: Economically priced system, very good channel separation.

Con: Interference with extreme head inclination. Silver screen or special back screen material necessary.

The pictures (right and left) arrive simultaneously and parallel in both projectors. The emerging light is then linearly polarized, which can be likened to being shown through an optical lattice. The lattices (polarized filters) before the projectors are set at 90 degrees from each other - just as they are in the corresponding lens of the glasses. So only the corresponding picture is forwarded to the corresponding eye. A prerequisite for this to work properly is that the projection medium (foil or disk) does not depolarize the light.



Circular Polarized

Pro: No sacrifice of channel distortion caused by head inclination.

Con: More complex and expensive than linear. Silver screen or special back screen material necessary.

The pictures (right and left) arrive simultaneously and parallel in both projectors. The emerging light is circularly polarized. The circular filter turns the light like a corkscrew around the Z axis. One projector is filtered with a clockwise twist and the other with a counter clockwise. The accompanying glasses decode the light for the corresponding eyes. In all other ways, circular polarization is similar to linear.



Infitec

Pro: Perfect Channel Seperation - therefore no ghost image and excellent stereo perception no special projection surface necessary - the complete system fits in a small case.

Con: slightly higher light diffusion than polarized filters. Special color correction is necessary for the projectors. Glasses are more expensive.

Infitec (interference filter technology), a registered trademark of Daimler Chrysler, was developed there and is licensed to 3Dims. The pictures (right and left) arrive simultaneously and parallel in both projectors. In place of a polarized filter is the optical interference filter that shifts the light (red, green, blue) on the color frequency spectrum toward ultraviolet (for one eye) and toward infrared (for the other eye). The accompanying glasses decode the light for the corresponding eyes.
